Virgin Trains East Coast employees are to be balloted for industrial motion in a row over pay and circumstances.
The Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union stated poor circumstances have been being imposed on staff in addition to modifications to working circumstances and sick pay.
If members vote in favour of strike motion, walkouts might happen early within the new yr.
Virgin Trains East Coast stated it was disenchanted its supply of a “very reasonable three.2% pay improve” was not accepted.
The poll, which closes on 20 December, comes days after it was introduced that the East Coast franchise, which runs between London, north-east England and Scotland, will finish three years early in 2020.
The choice has sparked monetary considerations throughout the business because the franchise, a partnership between Stagecoach and Virgin, had agreed to pay the federal government £three.3bn to run the service till 2023.
RMT basic secretary Mick Money stated the corporate had “sought to impose” a pay supply and that it was rejected by a big majority of its members.
The union stated phrases and circumstances of hand-chosen grades have been being “attacked”, whereas others have been being “higher rewarded and left alone”.
It stated some 2,000 members have been being balloted and it coated all practice crew employees together with practice managers, drivers and on-board catering staff.
Mr Money stated: “Our members should not be pressured to pay the worth for the gross monetary mismanagement of this franchise which now sees Virgin/Stagecoach being lined up for a taxpayer-funded rescue operation by the federal government to the tune of a whole lot of hundreds of thousands of kilos.”
A Virgin Trains spokesman stated: “We will reassure clients that we anticipate to have the ability to run a close to-regular service within the occasion of any industrial motion.”
Each Virgin and the RMT stated they remained obtainable for talks.
The Division for Transport stated monetary commitments made with the East Coast operator would proceed.
