The Committee to Shield Journalists (CPJ) has decried the arrest of a reporter who apparently used social media to criticise authorities for alleged reluctance to arrest a lawmaker whose vehicle struck and killed a police officer.
The brother of the detained journalist, Zafar Achakzai, says he was picked up on Sunday night by a gaggle of males sporting each plainclothes and the uniforms of the Frontier Corps.
The brother, Asmatullah Achakzai, advised The Related Press on Thursday that the household has been unable to see or go to the journalist however that they’ve been promised he will probably be launched “quickly.”
Pakistan has been cracking down on journalists, making it an offence to criticise the federal government, the army or the police.
CPJ asks that Achakzai be launched shortly and unhurt.
